HOBE SOUND, Fla. — A woman rescued from a burning home Monday afternoon in Hobe Sound later died from her injuries, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and Martin County Fire Rescue.
The fire began shortly after 3 p.m. on June 29 at a home in the 7000 block of Southeast Cactus Trail.
When Martin County Fire Rescue crews from Station 32 arrived, they found heavy smoke pouring from all doors and windows of the residence.
Firefighters quickly entered the home, located an unresponsive occupant, and removed the victim while simultaneously working to extinguish the fire.
Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before transporting her by ambulance to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities later identified the victim as 46-year-old Misty Dawn White. She later died at the hospital.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to investigate the fire.
According to investigators, a preliminary investigation indicates the fire was likely caused by an electrical issue. Authorities said there is no indication of foul play.
Stuart Fire Rescue also responded to assist under a mutual aid agreement.
