JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A long-term Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office narcotics investigation targeting drug trafficking in the city’s Urban Core and downtown has resulted in 87 arrests, with additional suspects still being sought.
The operation, dubbed “Operation LERP,” focused on identifying and arresting individuals involved in distributing illegal narcotics throughout Downtown Jacksonville and surrounding neighborhoods.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, many of those arrested are accused of selling dangerous drugs near schools and churches.
Investigators said the operation has already led to the arrest of 87 people and the removal of numerous illegal drugs and firearms from the streets.
Authorities also have 12 active arrest warrants for additional suspects identified during the investigation. Once those individuals are taken into custody, the total number of arrests is expected to reach 99.
The sheriff’s office said Operation LERP was designed to improve public safety while supporting ongoing revitalization efforts in Downtown Jacksonville and the Urban Core.
Officials said illegal drug trafficking threatens residents, businesses and visitors while contributing to violent crime in the area.
The investigation was funded through the State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication (SAFE) Grant, which supports efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking and fentanyl distribution.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active and detectives will continue pursuing the remaining suspects.
