JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – A 60-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following a fatal stabbing under the Jacksonville Beach Pier, according to the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.
Police identified the suspect as Dennis Darwin Perry, 60. Perry was charged with premeditated first-degree murder and booked into the Duval County Jail.
Officers responded to the 500 block of Beach Proper North after receiving reports that a person had been stabbed under the pier.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from apparent stab wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
Investigators identified a suspect following the stabbing, and Perry was taken into custody. Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Perry was subsequently charged with Murder, Premeditated, First Degree, under Florida Statutes ยง 782.04(1)(a)1.
Police have not released details about what allegedly led to the stabbing, whether Perry and the victim knew each other, or what evidence led detectives to identify Perry as the suspect.
Although an arrest has been made, Jacksonville Beach Police said the investigation remains active. Detectives are continuing to collect evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Investigators are also seeking any photographs or video that may have captured the incident or events surrounding it.
