Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Arrests 14 in Domestic Violence Initiative

In October, as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) collaborated with agencies nationwide for the Annual National Family Violence Apprehension Detail, resulting in the arrest of 14 individuals for domestic violence-related offenses in Citrus County.

The National Apprehension Detail, initiated by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon, encourages agencies across the U.S. to serve outstanding family violence warrants. These warrants cover various family-related crimes, including domestic violence, interfering with 9-1-1 calls, injunction violations, pretrial release agreement violations, non-payment of child support, child abuse, elder abuse, and other family violence offenses.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, over 10 million adults in the United States experience domestic violence each year, with many incidents involving repeat offenders. Sheriff Prendergast emphasized the serious threat domestic violence poses to individuals, stating, “Domestic violence can often be a recurring issue within families and communities.” He highlighted the efforts of the Behavioral Health Unit in reducing domestic violence and breaking the cycle of abuse.
