Man Sentenced to Life for 2021 Fatal Shooting at Naples Bar

A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for a fatal shooting at Rusty’s Bar and Grill in Naples on March 12, 2021. Jason Nicholas Ortiz was convicted of second-degree murder in September following a Collier County Sheriff’s Office investigation.

Deputies responded to Rusty’s Bar and Grill, located at 2700 Immokalee Road, around 9:40 p.m. after reports of an altercation with shots fired inside the establishment. Two men were found shot during the incident, and a third man sustained injuries while attempting to intervene.

The investigation revealed that Ortiz, a co-worker of the victim, had an altercation with him outside the bar before the shooting. After the victim re-entered the establishment to speak with another co-worker, Ortiz returned, drew a firearm, and shot him multiple times. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Ortiz was also hospitalized for his injuries and arrested upon his release. The life sentence was handed down today by a judge, ensuring Ortiz will remain behind bars.
