Gas Station Fight Escalates to Vehicular Assault in Bradenton

On January 22, 2025, an argument at the Marathon gas station on the 2000 block of 14th Street W. in Bradenton escalated into violence, leaving one man hospitalized and another in custody.

Witnesses reported that an argument between two customers began inside the store and continued into the parking lot. Peter Sampson, 51, retrieved a hatchet from his vehicle and threatened the other man before getting into his car and running him over. Sampson then fled the scene.

The victim sustained serious injuries, including a broken leg, and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The Bradenton Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team identified and arrested Sampson the following morning. He faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.

The investigation remains ongoing.
