A Duval County jury has found 38-year-old Craig S. Fuce Jr. guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Fuce faces up to life in Florida State Prison due to enhanced penalties. The Honorable London Kite will sentence him at a later date.
The shooting occurred on November 23, 2023, when Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers responded to a Union Street address and found a man with a gunshot wound to his lower back. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he provided details about the shooting.
According to the victim, Fuce approached him to collect $20 he was owed and warned him that if he didn’t pay, he would “die today.” Fuce then pulled the victim outside, leading the victim to believe they would fight. Instead, Fuce retrieved a gun from his bag and shot the victim as he attempted to run away. Fuce fled before police arrived.
Security footage corroborated the victim’s account of the shooting. Fuce was later arrested following a separate incident at a local business.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Crystal Ganpath-Freed and Carolyn Auchter.
