A Duval County jail inmate has been charged with murder following the death of a man she allegedly set on fire last year.
Kimberly Statum, 60, was initially arrested in November 2024 for attempted murder after officers found 67-year-old Lee Payne severely burned inside a home on Alexandra Drive in the Biscayne area. Payne was transported to a burn unit in Gainesville for treatment, while Statum was detained and arrested at the scene.
In December, Payne succumbed to his injuries. The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a homicide.
After reviewing the evidence, the State Attorney’s Office approved upgraded charges against Statum for Murder and Arson. She remains in custody at the Duval County jail.
Authorities continue to work with prosecutors as the case moves forward.
