Army Captain Found Guilty of Soliciting a Minor for Sex in Nassau County Sting

A Nassau County jury has found Tavarris Andrews guilty of multiple charges, including Traveling to Meet a Minor to do Unlawful Acts and Soliciting a Child via a Computer. Andrews, who was a captain in the United States Army at the time of his arrest, faces up to 21 years in Florida State Prison. His sentencing by the Honorable Steven Fahlgren will be scheduled for a later date.

The investigation revealed that Andrews initiated contact through a website with what he believed to be a 34-year-old woman, who was actually an undercover law enforcement officer. Despite the undercover officer disclosing that she was 14 years old via text message, Andrews continued to engage in graphic sexual conversations and agreed to meet her at a designated location for sexual intercourse.

Upon arriving at the meeting location, Andrews was greeted by the undercover officer. A takedown signal was initiated, and Andrews fled for nearly half a mile before officers deployed a taser and took him into custody.

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, and Assistant State Attorneys Tom Mangan and Melissa Coll prosecuted it.
