Jason Larosa Young, 41, has been found guilty of three counts of Sexual Battery with Use of Force, False Imprisonment, and Battery by Strangulation after a bench trial presided over by the Honorable Lindsay Tygart. State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced the verdict, which now means Young faces a mandatory life sentence in Florida State Prison. Judge Tygart will formally sentence Young at a later date.
Young is a registered sex offender in Florida for a conviction in 2011.
The conviction stems from an armed sexual battery reported on March 11, 2024, at a North Jacksonville apartment complex. The victim, who was homeless and staying in a vacant apartment with Young at the time, reported that Young came up behind her and used a cord-like object to strangle her until she lost consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, Young repeatedly beat and raped her while threatening her with a boxcutter. The victim was subsequently transported to a hospital for a sexual assault forensic exam.
Ten days later, on March 21, 2024, another victim reported a sexual assault off Dunn Avenue, leading to Young’s arrest. The weapon used in this second assault matched the description of the boxcutter provided by the first victim. Following a DNA search warrant, buccal swabs were collected from Young, and his DNA was confirmed to be a match for the DNA collected during the initial victim’s sexual assault forensic exam.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jessica Russell and LaTesha Campbell.
