Detectives with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a double homicide after two adults were found shot to death inside a Largo residence on Friday afternoon.
On June 6, 2025, at approximately 12:35 p.m., deputies responded to a welfare check at 29 Saunders Avenue after an employee failed to report to work. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 53-year-old Elizabeth Lee Kirchner and 64-year-old Steven Eric Kirchner deceased in the living room. Both appeared to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
Through their investigation, detectives identified the couple’s son, 37-year-old Nicholas Steven Kirchner, as a suspect. He had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Later that day, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina contacted Pinellas County authorities regarding an incident involving Nicholas. During that encounter, Nicholas reportedly stated, “I’ve already killed two people – I’ll kill some more,” before fleeing.
Nicholas Kirchner was ultimately taken into custody by the Taliaferro County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia. While in custody, he admitted multiple times to killing his parents and referred to the act as a “righteous kill.”
Kirchner was transported to the McDuffie County Jail in Georgia and is being held on a felony warrant for two counts of First-Degree Murder Premeditated.
Next of kin have been notified. The investigation remains ongoing.
