Two Women Arrested After Children Found Locked in Shed Without Food or Water in Waldo

Two women have been arrested and charged with child neglect after two five-year-old children were found locked inside a shed in the early morning hours of June 28, 2025.

Deputy S. Lawson responded to the 13500 block of NE US Highway 301 following a report from a concerned citizen. Upon arrival, deputies met with two witnesses who had discovered the children inside a shed with a brick placed against the door to prevent them from leaving. The shed lacked electricity, running water, and food. A large knife was also found within reach of the children.

Witnesses identified 59-year-old Sabine Thrift and 37-year-old Tamara Stoiber in connection with the incident. Investigators determined that Stoiber had left the children in Thrift’s care. Thrift allegedly refused to supervise them, while Stoiber claimed she had stepped away briefly, though deputies found she had been gone for several hours.

Thrift was charged with two counts of Child Neglect. Stoiber was charged with two counts of Child Neglect and two counts of False Imprisonment.

The investigation is ongoing.
