Jacksonville Man Convicted of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation, Faces Life in Prison

A Duval County jury has found 59-year-old Dewayne Keith Scott guilty of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation and Lewd or Lascivious Conduct. With this verdict, Scott faces a potential sentence of up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jonathan Sacks will determine Scott’s sentence at a later date, announced State Attorney Melissa Nelson.

The investigation began on October 24, 2023, when the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office opened a case into Scott following allegations from a 13-year-old victim, who was under 12 years old when the crimes occurred. As the investigation progressed, other victims of Scott from previous years came forward, detailing his inappropriate sexual behavior, including touching and kissing, when they were minors. Although the statute of limitations had expired for these older incidents, their accounts were admitted as evidence to demonstrate Scott’s repeated pattern of behavior, corroborating the current victim’s experience.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Caitlin Messinger and Shaina Ruth.
