Orlando Police Arrest Man in Deadly 2023 Hit-and-Run That Killed 5-Year-Old Girl

ORLANDO, Fla. – On August 25, 2025, the Orlando Police Department’s Fugitive Unit, working with the U.S. Marshals Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested 35-year-old Yosefi Arabu at his home near Clarcona Ocoee Road and Lunsford Drive.

Arabu was taken into custody in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash on November 11, 2023. That night, officers responded to a collision in the 4300 block of N. Orange Blossom Trail involving a 2016 Mercedes C300 and a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder.

Two people were ejected from the Pathfinder. Among them was 5-year-old Aiyanna McCoy, who was rushed to a local hospital but tragically died from her injuries. The occupants of the Mercedes fled the scene before police arrived.

After nearly two years of investigation, OPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit helped bring charges against Arabu, who now faces multiple felonies, including:

  • Vehicular Homicide
  • Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Death
  • Three counts of Driving Without a Valid License Resulting in Death/Serious Injury
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Two counts of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Bodily Injury
  • Two counts of Reckless Driving Resulting in Property Damage

Police say the arrest represents a step toward justice for Aiyanna’s family.
