Suspect Arrested for Second-Degree Murder in Tallahassee Stabbing

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—A woman has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred last month.

On July 25, at approximately 10:47 p.m., the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) responded to a disturbance at the Talla-Villa Apartments. When officers arrived, they found an adult male with injuries. Despite life-saving measures, he died as a result of an altercation and subsequent stabbing.

Detectives with TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit determined that the victim had been in an ongoing relationship with the suspect, Landy Hayes. The two had been in an altercation on the night of the incident, which led to the stabbing.

An investigation revealed that Hayes’ statement to detectives was inconsistent with the physical evidence found at the scene and with the findings of a subsequent autopsy.

On August 28, Hayes was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.

TPD stated that the arrest is a testament to the department’s commitment to holding those who harm others accountable. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact TPD at 850-891-4200 or to remain anonymous by calling Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.
