Lake City Man Arrested for Arson

LAKE CITY, Fla.—A Lake City man has been arrested and charged with arson after a home security camera captured him allegedly setting fire to a residence on August 8.

Lake City Police officers responded to a report of a suspicious person and possible arson at a home on SE Monroe Street. The resident told police that a home security camera alerted her to someone on her property, and she then saw a flash of light and smoke coming from the side of her house.

Officers reviewed the security footage, which showed a man in a purple hoodie and black pants near the home just as a bright light appeared. They found damage to the residence, including charred exterior panels, and an open bottle of lighter fluid nearby.

The suspect was identified as Damien Morgan. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was located and taken into custody by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office on September 8.

Chief Butler stated that “acts of arson put lives in extreme danger, and our department will continue to work diligently to ensure those responsible are held accountable.”
