LAKE CITY, FL – On the evening of Wednesday, December 17th, Lake City Police Department responded to a call at Petsmart regarding a missing 12-year-old special needs child. Upon arrival, officers located the child perched on the edge of the building, creating a dangerous situation.
Recognizing the risk, Lake City Police requested assistance from the Lake City Fire Department. Fire crews, along with the child’s mother, positioned themselves in the bucket of Tower 1 to establish communication and guide the child to safety. The child attempted to climb down the building via a gas pipe attached to the rear of the store, prompting fire personnel to deploy a ground ladder to prevent any fall.
With careful coordination, the child was guided back onto the roof and safely secured by the firefighter and her mother. Both were then lowered to the ground using the tower’s bucket.
Thanks to the skill and quick response of the Lake City Police and Fire Department personnel, the child was unharmed and safely returned to her mother’s care. The incident highlights the effectiveness of teamwork and training in emergency rescue situations.
