Port Charlotte Woman Arrested for Knife Attack at Homeless Camp

Port Charlotte, Fla. – A woman was arrested after allegedly cutting a man’s arm with a knife during an argument at a homeless camp on December 21, 2025.

Just after noon, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a physical altercation at the intersection of Kenesaw Street and Cedarwood Street. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim bleeding from a 3-inch-long, half-inch-deep cut on his left forearm. Deputies applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding before EMS transported the victim for medical treatment.

The victim identified the suspect as 38-year-old Stephanie A. Hernandez. According to the victim, Hernandez had started a fire near his campsite the night before and returned the next day, leading to a verbal argument that escalated to her cutting his arm with a knife. Hernandez was located nearby and positively identified by the victim before being taken into custody.

Sheriff Bill Prummell commented on the incident, noting that while tensions may run high, violence is never acceptable, and expressed hope that Hernandez would learn from the situation.

Hernandez was charged with Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm and is being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond.
