Lake City Sexual Offender Arrested After ICAC Task Force Uncovers Child Abuse Material and Meth Trafficking

LAKE CITY, Fla. – A month-long investigation into digital child exploitation has led to the arrest of a registered sexual offender in Columbia County. Craig Cleveland Taylor, 52, was taken into custody on December 19, 2025, following a multi-agency operation that uncovered both illegal imagery and significant quantities of narcotics.

The investigation began on November 19, after detectives received a “CyberTip” from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The tip provided evidence that a suspect was downloading child sexual abuse material (CSAM) from the internet.

The Digital Trail Leads to a Familiar Name

Investigators with the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force quickly identified the suspect as Taylor, a resident of Lake City who was already on the state’s sexual offender registry.

After securing both an arrest warrant for Taylor and a search warrant for his residence, detectives moved to apprehend him. The operation involved a coordinated effort between Columbia County Sheriff’s Office detectives, the ICAC Task Force, and members of the Multi-Jurisdiction Drug Task Force.

Discovery of Drugs and Prohibited Content

The search of Taylor’s home yielded a disturbing array of illegal materials. In addition to multiple images of child sexual abuse, investigators located images depicting persons engaged in sexual activity with animals.

Furthermore, Taylor’s arrest led to a major narcotics discovery. Officers found him in possession of what they described as a “large amount” of methamphetamine, resulting in a high-level drug trafficking charge.

Facing Severe Legal Consequences

Taylor has been booked into the local detention facility and faces a litany of felony charges under Florida law:

  • Possession of Child Pornography (§827.071.5a): A third-degree felony that can be enhanced based on the volume of material or the age of the victims.
  • Possession of Image Depicting Animal Sex Activity (§828.126.2e): A third-degree felony in Florida, reflecting the state’s zero-tolerance policy for bestiality and related materials.
  • Trafficking Methamphetamine (§893.135): A first-degree felony. Under Florida’s strict drug laws, trafficking charges carry mandatory minimum prison sentences depending on the weight of the substance seized.
  • Use of a Two-Way Communication Device to Facilitate a Felony (§934.215): A charge often applied when digital devices are used to download or distribute illegal content.
