PORT ORANGE, Florida – Two juveniles were taken into custody Tuesday morning, January 20, 2026, following a reckless driving incident, pursuit, and crash in Port Orange.

Around 7:00 a.m., Port Orange Police officers observed a black Kia Soul driving recklessly near Dunlawton Avenue and U.S. 1. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, running red lights and committing multiple traffic violations.

The pursuit ended a short time later near Dunlawton Avenue and Interstate 95, where the Kia crashed into a truck pulling a trailer. The truck driver was not injured.

After the crash, the driver and a passenger ran from the scene on foot. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and apprehended both suspects. The driver was identified as Roland Smith, 16, of Deltona. The passenger is also a 16-year-old juvenile.

According to police, Smith admitted he had stolen the vehicle the night before. Officers also discovered a stolen handgun inside the car, which Smith told investigators had been taken from an Ocala gun range. Police said the teens were heading to the beach to meet friends and planned to shoot a music video.

Smith was charged with fleeing and eluding, grand theft of a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, and resisting a law enforcement officer. The juvenile passenger was charged with resisting a law enforcement officer.
