NASSAU COUNTY, Florida – An hours-long standoff in Callahan ended early Thursday when deputies found a barricaded man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 4 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026, to a residence on Jessica Place after Kenneth William Presgraves contacted the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center regarding his wife being at the home. Authorities said Presgraves claimed she was attempting to get him into further trouble.
Earlier that week, Presgraves had been arrested on charges of illegally installing a tracking device and stalking. A no-contact order issued Tuesday prohibited him from being within 500 feet of the residence he shared with his wife.
When deputies arrived and attempted to explain the court-ordered restrictions, Presgraves became uncooperative. Officials said a confrontation followed, and he retreated inside the home, barricading himself.
The Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and crisis negotiators responded. Negotiators made repeated attempts to persuade Presgraves to surrender and exit safely. During the standoff, authorities said he made multiple suicidal statements, including threats of “suicide by cop.”
At approximately 3 a.m. Thursday, the Special Response Team entered the residence and located Presgraves deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
No deputies were injured during the incident.
