Man Killed, Woman Injured in Early Morning Shooting in Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach, FL — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning at a busy intersection in Daytona Beach.

Officers with the Daytona Beach Police Department responded on March 7th to reports of a person shot near the intersection of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard and Pearl Street.

Officers who were already nearby arrived quickly and found an adult male local resident suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police immediately began life-saving measures until Volusia County Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment but later died from his injuries.

Authorities said a second person, an adult female bystander, later arrived at a local hospital with a graze wound believed to be related to the same incident.

She is receiving medical treatment and is expected to survive.

Investigators have not yet identified a suspect.

Detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident and said there is currently no ongoing threat to the community.

Although the shooting occurred within the broader event area, police said investigators do not believe it is connected to Daytona Beach Bike Week activities.

The investigation remains active.
