GAINESVILLE, Florida – A 21 year old Gainesville man was sentenced to eight years in prison on Thursday, March 12, 2026, following a conviction for multiple child exploitation offenses. Nathan Lewis pleaded guilty on March 10 to charges stemming from an investigation into the solicitation and possession of child pornography. Circuit Court Judge Colaw ordered the prison term to be followed by 10 years of sexual offender probation.
The Gainesville Police Department initiated the case in November 2024 after a digital investigation by Detective Montague. Investigators discovered that Lewis used the social media platform Snapchat to communicate with and exploit numerous minors. During an interview with authorities at the time of his arrest, Lewis admitted to owning the account used in the crimes.
Lewis told investigators his actions occurred during a period of severe depression and loneliness during the spring academic semester. He stated his motivation was a desire for social interaction. Despite these statements, he faced a total of 11 counts, including the transmission of harmful material to minors and the unlawful use of a two way communication device.
Law enforcement officials noted that resources for preventing online exploitation are available through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Lewis was 20 years old at the time the investigation began and will begin serving his sentence immediately.
