Jacksonville Police Shut Down Large Teen Takeover At Blue Cypress Park

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers shut down a large teen gathering at Blue Cypress Park after it escalated into fights and safety concerns.

According to JSO, more than 200 teenagers gathered at the park, where multiple fights broke out. Officers from District 2 Patrol and a task force unit responded and quickly moved to disperse the crowd.

Three teenage girls were arrested for their involvement in the fights.

Authorities said a separate group from the gathering moved to a nearby apartment complex, where there were reports of a firearm being discharged. However, investigators said there is no evidence that anyone was struck by gunfire.

That group attempted to return to the park, but officers had already secured and blocked off the area.

Additional officers remained in the area to monitor activity and prevent other pop-up gatherings from forming. The park was closed for the remainder of the night.

JSO officials said they had increased their presence in the area in anticipation of potential issues and are continuing to monitor similar gatherings.

The department is also urging parents and caregivers to stay aware of their children’s activities and help prevent situations like this from escalating.
