ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has concluded its investigation into a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a mini dirt bike that claimed the life of a 12-year-old student.
The crash occurred on February 17, 2026, along Longleaf Pine Parkway near Patriot Oaks Academy in St. Johns County.
According to investigators, the incident involved a 2019 Infiniti QX50 traveling eastbound and a juvenile operating a small gas-powered mini dirt bike traveling south in the crosswalk area.
The 12-year-old victim, identified as a student at Patriot Oaks Academy, was transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased. Authorities noted that school was not in session at the time and the school zone was inactive.
The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit conducted a full traffic homicide investigation, which included aerial scene measurements, video review, interviews with first responders, and detailed documentation.
Based on the findings, investigators determined the mini dirt bike entered the roadway shortly before the collision, leaving the driver with little opportunity to avoid the crash. Authorities said the driver was not speeding, impaired, or driving recklessly.
No criminal charges will be filed against the driver, and the case has been closed.
Officials said their thoughts remain with the family and everyone affected by the incident.
