DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. — A student was detained Tuesday morning following a stabbing at Walton Middle School that left two students and one adult injured, authorities said.
The incident was reported at approximately 7:22 a.m. on March 24, 2026. A School Resource Deputy was already on campus when the call came in, and additional deputies from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded along with officers from the DeFuniak Springs Police Department.
Officials said the suspect, identified as a student at the school, was located and detained about a block away from campus at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Two students and one adult were transported for medical treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been released.
Classes at Walton Middle School were canceled for the day.
“Our first priority, along with Walton County School District, was to ensure that students and staff were safe, the situation was brought under control, and accurate information was relayed to parents regarding reunification,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
