Man Indicted on Double Murder Charges in Ponte Vedra Beach Shooting

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — A St. Johns County grand jury has indicted a 32-year-old man in connection with a double homicide outside a pharmacy near TPC Sawgrass earlier this month.

Christian Joseph Barrios was formally charged on March 31, 2026, with two counts of First-Degree Murder. Authorities allege Barrios shot two victims multiple times on March 14. Both victims were transported to a hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

According to investigators, Barrios fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and led law enforcement on a pursuit into Nassau County, where he was ultimately taken into custody.

Officials said Barrios is considered high risk and is being held without bond. At the time of the incident, he was on probation for a previous conviction.

The case is being investigated by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, and the Florida Department of Agriculture Law Enforcement.

Managing Assistant State Attorney Sarah Thomas has been assigned to prosecute the case.

Authorities noted that an indictment is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
