CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A man and woman were found dead inside a Fleming Island apartment in what investigators believe may be a domestic-related murder-suicide, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called April 18, 2026, after a family member of 34-year-old Ashtin Durham contacted authorities about a concerning message they received from him.
Deputies responded to an apartment complex on County Road 220 for a welfare check at the residence of Durham’s girlfriend, 36-year-old Jessica Valentin-Rivera.
After multiple unsuccessful attempts to make contact, deputies entered the apartment and found both Durham and Valentin-Rivera dead, according to investigators.
Authorities said both appeared to have died from gunshot wounds. A firearm and shell casings were recovered at the scene.
Preliminary information indicates the case may be a domestic-related murder-suicide, though investigators said the case remains in its early stages.
Authorities said both Durham and Valentin-Rivera have children, but none together. Officials said no children were present during the shooting and all children are safe with family members.
The investigation remains active.
