Duval County Jury Convicts Gang Member in 2023 Murder-for-Hire Shooting Case

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Duval County jury has convicted a man in connection with a 2023 murder-for-hire shooting in which 17 rounds were fired into a home occupied by multiple people, including a child, according to the office of Melissa Nelson.

Prosecutors said 23-year-old Di’joure Jahmar Renfrow was found guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder following a jury trial in Duval County.

According to the investigation, the case began on May 19, 2023, when the victim received death threats from co-defendant Shankia Ellington after the victim allegedly failed to pay Ellington following a prior sexual transaction.

Authorities said that hours later, Renfrow, identified by prosecutors as a gang associate, fired 17 rounds at the victim’s residence while four people, including a child, were inside the home. No injuries were reported.

Investigators said Renfrow later texted Ellington to confirm the shooting had been carried out and demanded payment for the killing.

According to prosecutors, Ellington later admitted to investigators that she hired Renfrow for $1,000 to kill the victim.

On July 14, 2023, detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Community Problem Response Unit arrested Renfrow and recovered a firearm from his belongings.

Authorities said ballistic testing linked the firearm to shell casings recovered at the shooting scene, and Renfrow’s DNA was also found on the weapon.

Ellington previously pleaded guilty on April 24, 2025, to Attempted First-Degree Murder, Solicitation to Commit a Capital Felony, and Written Threats to Kill. She is awaiting sentencing.

Renfrow faces up to 20 years in Florida state prison. London Kite will sentence him at a later date.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Katherina Brown and Brittany Johnson.
