Registered Sex Offender Sentenced to 25 Years for Violating Probation in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Florida – A registered sex offender was sentenced to 25 years in prison after investigators linked him to online child sexual abuse material and multiple probation violations, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

Authorities said 39-year-old Joshua Bryan received five consecutive five-year sentences on May 21 for violations of probation.

Investigators said the case began June 26, 2025, when Gainesville Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit executed a search warrant at Bryan’s residence after receiving a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

According to police, the CyberTip indicated a user on an adult dating platform had uploaded and shared an image containing child sexual abuse material.

Detective Donna Montague, who was already familiar with Bryan from a prior 2021 case that resulted in a 48-month prison sentence followed by sex offender probation, led the investigation.

Authorities said Bryan was charged with six counts related to failing to properly update, register, or report sex offender account information.

Investigators seized Bryan’s electronic devices during the search, and forensic analysis later allegedly confirmed he was the individual identified in the CyberTip.

Police said Bryan is still awaiting sentencing on additional charges connected to the investigation.

The Gainesville Police Department also urged parents to remain vigilant regarding children’s online activity and warned that minors continue to be targeted through social media and messaging applications.
