JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 4-year-old girl was killed and her mother and 2-year-old sister were critically injured in a domestic-related shooting Tuesday afternoon on Jacksonville’s Northside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Chief of Investigations Michael Paul said officers responded at approximately 5 p.m. on June 30 to a reported shooting on Traci Lynn Drive.

When officers arrived, they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds: a 27-year-old woman, a 4-year-old girl, and a 2-year-old girl.

The 4-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman and the 2-year-old were transported to local hospitals, where both underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said detectives with the Community Problem Response Unit quickly located the suspected shooter during a traffic stop a short time after the shooting and took him into custody without incident.

According to preliminary information, the suspect and the adult victim are the parents of the two children.

Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit are continuing to investigate while Crime Scene Unit personnel process evidence at the scene. Representatives from the State Attorney’s Office also responded.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved or announced formal charges.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at (904) 630-0500 or First Coast Crime Stoppers.

“Our hearts are with the victims and their loved ones in the wake of this horrific tragedy,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “While this investigation is still in its early stages, our detectives will work tirelessly to ensure justice is served for this family.”
