VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Volusia County man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading no contest to charges stemming from a series of online threats referencing mass violence.
During a hearing on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, 65-year-old Michael C. Maguire of Debary, FL, was sentenced to 12 years in the Florida Department of Corrections, followed by eight years of probation.
Maguire entered no contest pleas in May to one count of Written Threats to Conduct a Mass Shooting or an Act of Terrorism and one count of Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device.
According to investigators, detectives identified a series of threatening online comments posted over several months near the end of 2025. The posts included threats directed at media members and others, references to firearms, and language suggesting acts of violence.
As part of the investigation, Google and YouTube provided information that linked the online activity to Maguire’s account, phone number, residence, and internet service.
Detectives confirmed the account belonged to Maguire, who was arrested at his home in DeBary on Nov. 18, 2025.
The investigation was conducted jointly by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and the FBI’s National Threat Operations Section.
Assistant State Attorney Dan Megaro prosecuted the case on behalf of the State of Florida.
Circuit Judge Kathleen McNeilly accepted the plea and imposed the sentence.
Authorities said the investigation helped prevent potential acts of violence by identifying and responding to the online threats before they could escalate.
