FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Daytona Beach man has been charged with threatening to kill a Florida Department of Children and Families caseworker following a year-long, multi-agency investigation, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said the case began in July 2025 after a DCF caseworker reported receiving a series of threatening text messages from an unknown phone number.
According to detectives, one of the messages claimed the sender had an AR-15 rifle waiting for the caseworker and warned that she would never see her family again.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Florida Department of Children and Families, Volusia County Probation and the Oregon Fusion Center to trace the messages and identify the sender.
Investigators determined the messages were sent by 30-year-old Tyler William Stinnett of Daytona Beach, who was reportedly angry over a child welfare case. Detectives also found that Stinnett had allegedly sent similar threatening messages using spoofed phone numbers to other DCF employees and a judge.
Stinnett was arrested in February by Volusia County detectives in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and later extradited to Volusia County. Authorities said he is facing approximately a dozen charges there involving similar threats against government employees.
After completing its investigation, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office submitted the case to the State Attorney’s Office, which obtained a capias charging Stinnett with making written threats to kill, do bodily injury, or commit a mass shooting or an act of terrorism.
The warrant was served on July 8 while Stinnett was being held in the Volusia County Jail on the related charges.
Stinnett remains in the Volusia County Jail without bond on the Volusia County case. His bond on the Flagler County charge has been set at $10,000.
“This coward hid behind fake phone numbers to threaten a woman whose entire job is protecting children,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “We will relentlessly pursue anyone who threatens public servants, especially those who protect our community’s children. Control your anger because if you don’t, we will arrest you.”
