NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Florida – A man accused of grabbing a victim and forcing them into a vehicle in New Smyrna Beach was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 3, after stealing the victim’s car, leading police on a chase and crashing into other vehicles in Port Orange, authorities said.
According to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of South Myrtle Avenue involving two people who knew each other.
Police said 20-year-old Isaiah Quavon Super of Punta Gorda forcibly grabbed the victim and pulled them into a vehicle. The victim managed to break free and attempted to contact law enforcement, but Super approached again, took the victim’s vehicle keys from their pocket and drove away in the victim’s car.
New Smyrna Beach officers issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for Super and the stolen vehicle.
Shortly afterward, Port Orange police located the vehicle and attempted to pull Super over near Nova Road and Village Trail. Instead of stopping, Super fled from officers, eventually crashing into other vehicles near the intersection of Nova Road and Dunlawton Avenue, according to police.
Super abandoned the wrecked vehicle and ran from the scene.
Port Orange officers, assisted by a K-9 unit from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, searched the area and located Super in the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood, where he was taken into custody.
Super was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail.
New Smyrna Beach police charged Super with robbery by sudden snatching, grand theft of a motor vehicle and battery.
He also faces additional charges from the Port Orange Police Department, including fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, driving while his license was suspended or revoked, resisting an officer without violence and leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.
