2 boaters recused by aircrew after boat capsized near Savannah

The Coast Guard Air Station Savannah aircrew rescued two distressed men Sunday after their 16-foot boat capsized four miles away from Jekyll Island, Georgia.

The Charleston Coastguard received a report through the 911 dispatch Saturday that two boaters were running late to Jekyll Harbor from Christmas Creek Marina and their phones were also going directly to voicemail.

The aircrew took a helicopter to search for the men and found them waving their arms with one in the water and one on the capsized boat.

The men were hoisted into the helicopter and taken to the Jekyll Island Airport for medical examination.

No injuries were reported.
