Two Suspects Arrested in 2022 Drive-By Shooting Death of 16-Year-Old in Alachua County

On June 5, 2022, at approximately 2:17 a.m., Alachua County deputies responded to a reported drive-by shooting at the Palms of Archer, located at 7117 SW Archer Road in Gainesville. The victim, 16-year-old Zhane’ Sanders, was shot during the incident. Sanders, who was in the area visiting family for a high school graduation celebration, was rushed to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators determined that Sanders was an innocent bystander in the shooting. Through their efforts, detectives identified two suspects, 22-year-old Geremy Doel Navarro of Ocala, FL, and 25-year-old Nathaniel Deweese Kendrick, Jr. of Ocala, both were recently charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder. They are currently being held at the Marion County Jail.

Sheriff Emery Gainey expressed his commitment to justice, stating, “This is the first step of justice for Zhane’ and her family.” The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Ocala Police Department, and the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office, continues to work toward securing a successful prosecution. Further charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
