Woman Charged with 2nd Degree Murder in Punta Gorda Homicide

Tiffany Diann May, the person of interest in a homicide investigation on Nasturtium Drive in Punta Gorda, has been officially charged with second-degree murder.

On Monday, December 2, at approximately 1 a.m., deputies with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded to 16045 Nasturtium Drive, where they discovered 63-year-old Denis “Doc” Carmody deceased from a single gunshot wound.

Witnesses placed 37-year-old May at the scene and confirmed she was in possession of Carmody’s chrome .38 caliber revolver. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) confirmed May’s DNA on the firearm and matched the bullet that struck Carmody to the revolver.

May was arrested on unrelated charges on the same day and remained in custody at the Charlotte County Jail. Based on the evidence, she has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bond.

“I want to thank my Major Crimes Unit for their diligence in this case, and our partners at FDLE for helping to confirm what my detectives pieced together as quickly as they did,” said Sheriff Bill Prummell. “My heart goes out to [Mr. Carmody’s] loved ones, and I hope this development eases their frustration, although it will not heal the pain they have been feeling in his loss.”
