Detectives with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Robbery/Homicide Unit have arrested 20-year-old Sean-Michael Cooper on charges of Attempted Murder and Residential Burglary with Battery following a violent attack on a 22-year-old woman.
On January 2, 2024, at approximately 3:39 a.m., deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a residence in unincorporated St. Petersburg. Upon arrival, deputies found Cooper standing outside the residence with blood on him. Inside the home, they located the victim, who had sustained significant injuries. The victim identified Cooper as her attacker.
Detectives determined that the victim had returned home from work to find Cooper inside her darkened residence. Cooper attacked the victim with a large glass pipe, pepper spray, and a metal frying pan. He also choked her, stole her phone, and made threats to stage an assault and commit further violence. When the victim resisted, Cooper threatened to kill her, her cats, and her mother before continuing the assault until she lost consciousness.
Cooper was found with injuries to his face and neck consistent with the victim’s attempts to defend herself. He provided detectives with numerous inconsistent statements during questioning.
The victim was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Cooper was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and charged with one count of Attempted Murder and one count of Burglary with Battery. The investigation remains ongoing.
