Tallahassee Officer Nominated for National Heroism Award After Rescuing Three During April 2024 Floods

Officer Gabriel Beyer of the Tallahassee Police Department has been nominated for the national Axon RISE Award for his heroic actions during the devastating April 2024 storms and flash floods that swept through the city.

Amid the flooding, officers received a call at 3:15 a.m. from a homeless encampment where water levels had risen dangerously, trapping three individuals. Responding to the emergency, Officer Beyer swam into seven-foot-deep waters, risking his own life to rescue the trapped individuals. His swift actions ensured their survival in a situation where they could have otherwise drowned.

The Axon RISE Award recognizes extraordinary acts of bravery and service, and Officer Beyer’s efforts exemplify the dedication to community safety.

Voting for the award is open from January 13 to January 27. View rescue video and cast your vote in favor of Officer Beyer.
