The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Organized Crimes Bureau, Narcotics Section, has arrested several individuals, including Anthony Medina, the alleged main supplier of a fentanyl trafficking organization operating within Miami-Dade County.
The arrests followed a seven-month investigation conducted by MDSO Narcotics detectives in collaboration with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) Narcotics Unit. Detectives executed multiple controlled fentanyl purchases, identifying Medina and other drug traffickers.
On January 30, MDSO Narcotics detectives attempted to stop Medina’s vehicle, but he fled at a high rate of speed, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, Medina intentionally struck a K-9 SUV, causing it to crash into a concrete wall near NW 72 Street and NW 1 Avenue. A deputy inside the vehicle was treated and released by Miami Fire Rescue. K-9 Roxy, who was in the SUV, was transported to an emergency veterinary hospital and is now in stable condition but requires further treatment.
Another MDSO vehicle was involved in a separate crash with a civilian at NE 2 Avenue and NE 17 Street. Miami Fire Rescue transported a male civilian to a hospital in stable condition and treated a male pedestrian who sustained minor injuries while avoiding the collision.
The pursuit ended westbound on SR 836 and NW 12 Avenue, where Medina, along with Julio Flores and Krystal E. Flores, were taken into custody after a brief struggle. Medina and Julio Flores are convicted felons.
A search of the suspects’ vehicle led to the seizure of:
- 12 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms
- 1,411 grams of marijuana in 252 bags
- 315 grams of marijuana in 90 boxes
- 400 grams of suspected THC cartridges in 20 boxes
- 678 grams of marijuana edibles in 14 packs
- $8,525 in U.S. currency
- 1 firearm
All three suspects have been charged accordingly as the investigation continues.
