On March 11, 2025, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), in coordination with the Florida Attorney General’s Office, Tampa International Airport Police Department (TPAPD), Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), arrested five individuals involved in an auto theft ring targeting rental vehicles.
The investigation began in June 2022 when FDLE agents in Fort Myers identified 12 stolen vehicles across multiple Florida counties, including Collier, Lee, and Charlotte counties. Investigators discovered the suspects targeted airport rental vehicles, gaining direct access to keys of high-end cars.
The suspects transported stolen vehicles to unknown locations, switched vehicle identification numbers (VINs) with fraudulent ones, and attempted to sell the vehicles. They also used tracking devices to locate and steal rental vehicles from lawful customers. Authorities linked the group to vehicle thefts in several states, including Texas, Georgia, Colorado, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Ohio.
Those arrested include:
- Hector Rafael Gonzalez Tamayo – Racketeering
- Yoan Oriol Gonzalez Solorzano – Racketeering
- Felipe Benitez Alonso – Racketeering
- Yainier Pinillo Toro – Racketeering (Currently in Tarrant County, Texas)
- Maria Beatriz Rodriguez La Rosa – Racketeering, Possession of a Vehicle with Altered Numbers
Inti Gomez Alonso remains wanted.
Four suspects were booked into the Hillsborough and Pasco County Jails. The case is being prosecuted by the Office of Statewide Prosecution.
