A man was killed by a stray bullet in the parking lot of the Magic Mall early Sunday morning, and Orlando Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting.
On April 6, 2025, at approximately 2:19 a.m., officers responded to a reported shooting at the Magic Mall. Upon arrival, they found the victim, identified as Joseph U. Phillips, with a gunshot wound. Orlando Fire Department paramedics pronounced Phillips deceased at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Phillips had been at D’Junction Island Bar and Restaurant and had stepped outside as a group in the parking lot became involved in an argument. During the altercation, the suspect, identified as Keishawn A. Richards, produced a firearm and attempted to shoot another individual involved in the dispute. Instead, a stray bullet struck Phillips.
Orlando Police Department detectives identified Richards, and the OPD SWAT team took him into custody without incident at his residence. Richards has been charged with Manslaughter with a Weapon. Police have stated that no additional suspects are outstanding in this case.
