A shooting in the early hours of February 4, 2025, at a parking garage located at 480 N Orange Ave has resulted in the arrest of six individuals facing a slew of serious charges, including attempted murder and armed robbery.
According to the Orlando Police Department (OPD), officers responded to the 4th floor of the parking garage around 2 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing a white Hyundai Tucson fleeing the scene. Police quickly detained the driver, Kelly Mala, and after a foot pursuit, apprehended Bahanni Haywood and D’Jon Heyliger.
During the arrests, Haywood was found to be in possession of a 9mm magazine and a black mask. The ammunition in the magazine matched casings discovered at the shooting scene. Video evidence obtained by investigators allegedly shows Haywood and Heyliger stealing 16 pounds of cannabis from a group of individuals. One suspect inside the Hyundai was also seen discharging a handgun.
Further video analysis revealed three other suspects in a blue Acura also involved in the theft, allegedly stealing boxes believed to contain cannabis. One of these suspects also discharged a firearm during the altercation. The individuals in the Acura were seen unloading the stolen boxes into a black Tesla driven by Jennelle Vante.
The subsequent investigation uncovered communication between the suspects that reportedly detailed the planning of the robbery and efforts to dispose of evidence.
Based on their investigation, OPD has established probable cause to charge the following individuals:
- Bahanni Haywood: Attempted Felony Murder with a Firearm Discharged, Armed Robbery with a Mask, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Traffic a Controlled Substance, Resisting an Officer without Violence.
- D’Jon Heyliger: Attempted Felony Murder with a Firearm Discharged, Armed Robbery with a Mask, Shooting from a Vehicle within 1,000 Ft of a Person.
- Kelly Mala: Attempted Felony Murder with a Firearm Discharged, Armed Robbery with a Firearm, Driving a Vehicle from Which Shots Were Fired, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Traffic a Controlled Substance.
- Milligan (First Name Not Provided): Attempted Felony Murder with a Firearm Discharged, Armed Robbery with a Mask, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Traffic a Controlled Substance, Shooting from a Vehicle within 1,000 Ft of a Person, Resisting an Officer without Violence.
- Weatherill (First Name Not Provided): Attempted Felony Murder with a Firearm Discharged, Armed Robbery with a Firearm, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Traffic a Controlled Substance.
- Jennelle Vante: Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery and Conspiracy to Traffic a Controlled Substance.
The Orlando Police Department stated that the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed as the case progresses.
