Palm Coast Man Arrested in Mississippi for Brutal Cat Killing

Following a multi-unit investigation, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) has located and arrested Atticus Robert, 34, of Palm Coast, in Mississippi on charges of animal cruelty.

The investigation began on March 7 when deputies responded to a domestic disturbance. The victim reported that their cat had died from severe physical injuries. During the initial response, Robert was arrested for False Imprisonment for allegedly preventing the victim from leaving during an argument about the cat’s death and was later released on bond.

Further investigation into the cat’s death by the FCSO Agriculture/Ranch Unit revealed scratches on Robert’s face and that he was alone with the animal for an hour before its death. A necropsy determined the cat died from collapsed lungs due to blunt force trauma.

Based on this evidence, a warrant for Aggravated Animal Cruelty was issued for Robert on April 3. Believed to be living out of his vehicle, his location was unknown until April 8, when the Hernando Police Department in Mississippi apprehended him on the Flagler County warrant.

Robert is currently being held at the DeSoto County Adult Detention Facility in Hernando, Mississippi, awaiting extradition to Flagler County.

Sheriff Rick Staly issued a stern warning: “If you seriously hurt or kill an innocent animal that cannot defend itself, we will find you and put you in the Green Roof Inn where you belong. I commend our deputies and detectives for thoroughly investigating this case and thank the Hernando Police Department for locating and helping us bring this guy to justice.”

The FCSO urges anyone suspecting animal abuse or neglect to contact their local animal control or law enforcement. Witnesses of active animal cruelty should immediately call 911.
