A coordinated effort between the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) led to the arrest of two individuals following a pursuit in a stolen vehicle on Wednesday.
Deputies shared information about a stolen vehicle with PSLPD, who located it and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, and St. Lucie County deputies joined the pursuit, locating the vehicle near Prima Vista Boulevard and Airoso Boulevard.
The driver continued to evade law enforcement, reaching excessive speeds and running a red light before the stolen Hyundai became stuck in a ditch at the intersection of SW Duval Avenue and SW Ivanhoe Street. Two suspects fled on foot but were quickly apprehended by K9 teams and the Aviation Unit, who located them hiding behind a residence in the 100 block of SE Duval Avenue.
D’shawn Antonio Sears, 18, was charged by PSLPD with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Resisting Officer without Violence and is currently in the St. Lucie County Jail. The second suspect, a juvenile, was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Sheriff Richard Del Toro commended the interagency cooperation, stating, “This coordinated response between our agencies demonstrates the critical importance of interdepartmental collaboration and the strategic use of our tactical resources to protect our community and bring fleeing suspects to justice.”
