A Manatee County jury on Wednesday found 28-year-old Nicholas Shermer guilty of second-degree murder in the 2023 death of his girlfriend, Amanda Shoaf.
Shermer called 911 on August 27, 2023, to report that he had shot Shoaf following an argument at their apartment on Carlton Inlet Drive. He was taken into custody without incident upon officers’ arrival. Shoaf was discovered deceased in the couple’s bedroom, and an autopsy revealed she had been shot four times.
Following his arrest, Shermer told detectives the argument was about birthday celebration plans. He admitted to shooting Shoaf but claimed she was blocking his exit from the bedroom. However, forensic evidence presented at the trial reportedly contradicted Shermer’s account.
Shermer’s trial began on April 20th. He now faces a sentence of 25 years to life in the Florida Department of Corrections.
