A potentially dangerous situation at Manantial de Vida Church in Naples was safely resolved Sunday afternoon after deputies with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about an armed man acting erratically.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., deputies arrived at the church located at 5990 Golden Gate Parkway, where 23-year-old Angel Antonio Arreguin of Naples had alarmed church employees during an active service. According to reports, Arreguin was in the lobby when he told two employees he was a trained killer and asked how much money it would take to stop a mass shooting. He also appeared to have a firearm in his waistband.
Deputies quickly made contact with Arreguin and disarmed him without incident. A loaded handgun with a bullet in the chamber and three fully loaded 9mm magazines—totaling 60 rounds—were found in his possession.
Church staff acted swiftly to ensure safety. One worker engaged Arreguin in conversation to keep him calm and discreetly alerted law enforcement. Another worker relocated all children to a safe area outside. Pastoral staff concluded the service early and instructed congregants to exit through side doors. Most parishioners were unaware of the incident as it unfolded.
Arreguin was arrested on two felony counts of threat to discharge a destructive device and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. He was placed under the Baker Act and has been trespassed from the church.
The incident remains under investigation.
