DNA Links Orlando Man to Jacksonville Cold Case Rapes; More Victims Feared

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has announced the arrest of Jason Blount, 52, of Orlando, in connection with three cold case sexual battery incidents that occurred in Jacksonville in 2000 and 2002. Blount was linked to the crimes through DNA evidence collected after his arrest in Orange County for robbery.

Blount’s modus operandi involved ambushing women outside their homes. In one instance, a victim was jogging when she was attacked. Another was dragged to a different location after leaving her apartment, and in a third case, he forced his way into a victim’s apartment.

JSO Special Assault Unit Cold Case Detective Cribbs, who was actively investigating the cases, developed enough probable cause to charge Blount with three counts of sexual battery. Detectives have also identified an additional victim, who was elderly at the time of the assault and is now deceased.

“Our hearts go out to the women Blount brutally victimized,” JSO stated. “We will work with the State Attorney’s Office to bring him the harshest punishment possible and make sure he doesn’t do this again.”

Detectives believe there may be more victims in Jacksonville, Orlando, and potentially beyond. The JSO urges anyone with information to contact them immediately at 904-630-0500.
