A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred early July 4, 2025, in Hillsborough County.
At approximately 4:50 a.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a traffic accident near Providence Road and Bloomingdale Avenue. Deputies responding to the scene discovered a 19-year-old female driver deceased. The driver of the second vehicle had fled on foot before law enforcement arrived.
According to preliminary findings and witness statements, the victim was traveling on Providence Road when she was struck by a vehicle that ran a red light at high speed while heading down Bloomingdale Avenue.
Detectives identified the suspect as 21-year-old Roberto Carlos Meza-Rosales. He was located within hours and admitted to fleeing the crash scene. Authorities noted signs of impairment, and alcohol is believed to be a factor.
Meza-Rosales, a Honduran national who unlawfully entered the U.S. in 2018, is currently facing a charge of Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving a Death. Additional charges are pending. HCSO is coordinating with U.S. Customs and Border Protection regarding his immigration status.
