9-Year-Old Arrested for Bringing Knife to Elementary School, Threatening Classmates

Putnam County, FL – A 9-year-old student, Anthony Walker, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill after threatening multiple classmates with a knife he brought to Middleton-Burney Elementary.

The incidents occurred on Wednesday, October 8, during recess. One victim reported that Walker pulled a pocketknife during a fight and threatened to stab him. Another child said Walker tapped him on the back, showed an open knife, and caused him to flee out of fear. A third student said Walker showed her a knife and instructed her not to tell teachers.

Putnam County Youth Resource deputies began investigating Thursday after receiving reports of possible threats. Walker was arrested, booked, and then released to a parent pending his court date.

Authorities emphasized the importance of checking backpacks and encouraging students to report threats to teachers or use the Fortify App. Officials noted that if the knives had been discovered earlier, the situation could have been handled at the school level without escalating to a felony arrest.
